Orca

In mid November of 2024, I fulfilled a bucket list dream for me: photographing wild orca hunting within the frozen fjords of Norway. Seeing wild orca has always been an aspiration for me, so I wanted to give myself the best possible chance. Tromsø in November gives you the best possible chance to view the apex predators, as they follow the shoals of herring on their migration pattern. After years of waiting, I finally found myself in the Arctic, on a rather rudimentary ship, heading towards Skjervoy. The journey was rough, rainy and snowy, with blistering winds and ice crystals hurled across the sea. After a few hours, we finally caught sight of our first Orca. The killer whales were virtually impossible to photograph, certainly much more of a challenge than I expected. This collection showcases the few successes I had, out of the thousands of attempts and years worth of waiting.
